Hello,
[AWS Health may periodically trigger reminder notifications about this communication if resources remain unresolved.]
You are receiving this message because you have at least one AWS Batch ECS compute environment using Amazon Linux 2 [1]. You can disregard this notification if you are exclusively using unmanaged AWS Batch compute environments, AWS Batch on Fargate, AWS Batch on EKS, compute environments with customer-provided AMIs, or have already migrated your compute environments to Batch-provided ECS optimized Amazon Linux 2023 AMIs.
Effective June 30, 2026, AWS Batch will block creation of new ECS compute environments using Batch-provided Amazon Linux 2 AMIs [2]. This change aligns with AWS ending support for ECS Amazon Linux 2-optimized and accelerated AMIs on the same date. Existing compute environments will continue to operate, but will no longer receive software updates, security patches, or bug fixes from AWS after this date.
AWS Batch defaulted to Amazon Linux 2023 for all newly-created ECS compute environments beginning January 12, 2026. After June 30, 2026, you will only be able to create new ECS compute environments using Amazon Linux 2023 or customer-provided AMIs.
We strongly recommend migrating your existing AWS Batch ECS compute environments to Amazon Linux 2023 [3] prior to June 30, 2026, to maintain optimal performance and security. You are responsible for maintaining Amazon Linux 2 compute environments after end-of-life. Please refer to the Batch documentation for differences between Amazon Linux 2 and Amazon Linux 2023 as well as detailed migration instructions [3][4].
A list of your impacted resources can be found in the 'Affected resources' tab of your AWS Health Dashboard.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact AWS Support [5].
