I am using this plugin for various android projects without any problems for nearly a year now.
But If anyone could provide a little more information on how to reproduce the error, I am happy to have a look into this.

For me, the problem lay with this line flavorDimensions "versionCode" within the build.gradle

Removing that and custom flavors did the trick 👍

As to why this was the cause of the problem, I'm not sure, but at least it's a starting point for debugging 😄

I think some people expect this plugin to commit the updated version code. I don't personally want that because I run this as part of CI/CD, but I think that's the confusion.
