Hi, I followed the steps at KindleModding Wiki to jailbreak both my Paperwhite 1 and my Paperwhite Kindle 7th Gen today. They both worked but I had the same problem with each one.
With the P1, the KUAL book opened but it was just a blank white page with no menu. However, the "update kindle" option is greyed out so I think I have disabled OTA updates? Everything else went as the instructions said they would.
With the P7, when I go to open KUAL I get a message: "Application Error - the selected application could no be started: Please try again."
I successfully downgraded the firmware from 5.16.2.1.1 to 5.14.2 and the option to "update kindle" is greyed out so, again, I think I have successfully disabled OTA updates? (I have kept this one almost full anyway for now).
Because I cannot open KUAL effectively I haven't been able to try anything with KOReader so far other than physically copying the files to the devices.
I have downloaded books to both kindles from the kindle store and transferred them successfully to Calibre with no DRM - something I could not do on the P7 for the last few weeks, so most of the process worked well.
I don't read on the Kindle. I just use them to transfer Amazon books I legitimately purchase to Calibre so I can convert them for reading on my preferred device (Kobo). Given that's all I need to do, is it important or not that KUAL doesn't seem to work on my devices? If it is important/recommended, does anyone have any tips on how to get it working please?
I think I know where things went wrong - at "Extracting/Copying KUAL" step 4/7 https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaking/post-jailbreak/installing-kual-mrpi/ The file I downloaded from the link was called "Update_KUALBooklet_HDRepack.bin" but the references on the page referred to a file called "Update_KUALBookklet*install.bin" or "Update_KUALBooklet_18b281e_install.bin" neither of which I could locate in the instructions or anything I downloaded. I admit I was a bit confused at this step as I wasn't exactly sure which action applied to me given my devices were neither legacy or "older than Kindle Touch". I put the file I did have in the mrpackages folder and kind of hoped for the best.
I hope that makes sense! I really have very little understanding of the steps I took today but I'm hoping the above is enough for a kindlemodding guru to help. I appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you.
