Expected Behavior
Rendering frame rate should match incoming frame rate in Moonlight in balanced mode.
Current Behavior
After booting my Switch OLED on Lineageos 22.2 (Android 15), when I start a game streaming in Moonlight with Balanced Frame Pacing set, the rendering framerate will reach max around 53-54 FPS despite that the incoming is a solid 60 FPS or higher for example 120FPS.
Possible Solution
No response
Steps to Reproduce
- Boot up Lineageos
- Startup Moonligh with Balanced framepacing and with Performance metrics
- Notice the rendering framerate is around 53-54 FPS despite the incoming is a solid 60.
Temporary Workaround
- Press the ON/Off Button on Switch to switch off the screen
- Press again to Wake up the screen
- Reconnect to the stream
- Notice now the rendering frame rate is matching the incoming framerate at 60fps.
My guess this is a Switchroot LineageOS display/VSync timing bug. Moonlight’s Balanced mode depends on Android’s Choreographer timing and Switchroot LineageOS sometimes initializes the display stack in a bad timing state after a fresh boot.
