Vanilla usage

Seems like this is usable only as a flake. Yes, a default.nix exists but it's a flake-compat wrapper.

For example, would be great if overlay files were real instead of taking flake inputs:

branding/overlays/default.nix

I know this is a bunch of work and I'm not sure I'm willing to do that work, but here's a formal request.
