Seat utilization, capacity, sessions, all include "closed" sessions. #105

I was digging into the analytics a bit more and was surprised to see that the seat utilization % was so low.

I did a few tests and I realized that the Seat utilization, capacity, sessions all include sessions that are "closed" (i.e. not available for self reservation) like this day:

I suggest adjusting those counts so they don't include sessions that aren't available for students to register into - I realize though that this is a bit thorny:

  • What if there are sessions that have students registered into them (but have self-reserve on, should those be counted or not? IMHO, they should.
  • What if there are sessions that are empty, self-reserve is on, but labels are setup in a way that no student can actually register into them? IMHO they should also count, but I can imagine arguments the other way.

It might be easier for us to change our process so that we don't have so many closed/unavailable sessions (we usually setup sessions at the beginning of the term and only open them when needed), or do the analysis ourselves by exporting the data.
