MicroSD not working properly on Lenovo Legion Go S Z1 Extreme 32GB (black nebula) #2357
Description
Your system information
- Steam client version:
- SteamOS version: 3.7.20 Stable (I tried 3.8 preview with no luck as well)
- Opted into Steam client beta?: [No]
- Opted into SteamOS beta?: [No]
- Have you checked for updates in Settings > System?: [Yes]
Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
Describe what you expected should happen and what did happen.
Steps for reproducing this issue:
- Install any game on the SD card and launch it
- When playing the game will freeze or hitch for a second or so (isn't stuttering or shader compilation issues)
- Tested on a huge variety of games such as KH2 (steam), Spyro Ignited Trilogy, Emulation... the issue stops when installing the same game on the SSD.
MicroSD cards doesn't work as expected, games installed on the SD card suffers from random stutters, freezes and crashes.
For what I've gathered is a common issue with this device and the current SteamOS (it doesnt matter if youre on stable, beta or main), I opened a ticket through Lenovo support but they redirect me to Valve, I've already reached support and they told me to open a github report.
I'll add that it seems like some users have the same issue as me and it could be caused by the SD card reader of the Legion Go S Z1E nebula (RTS522A).
Another user already pointed the issue:
_Right now, if games let the card idle for more than 10 seconds then the Realtek card reader driver shuts off power to the card reader for power saving. This leads to brief stutters when the card has to go power back up, and without the Realtek patches mentioned above would often cause file integrity errors. I'll make a note of your model so it's also covered by the quirk I'm working on to make sure read/write performance stays consistent even if games aren't constantly reading and writing to the card.
Many card reader drivers do not do this which is why it has not been an issue on Steam Deck or other handhelds with different brand readers._
I'm hoping that this get some views, since I've already tested a bunch of SD cards, all of them brand new and nothing works, I'm pretty sure that the key here is related to SteamOS.
