Team hub + first-time mental model (end silent team creation; teammates directory) #71

Description

@kipavy

Part of the team-ux initiative (siblings: #65#69). Arguably the biggest "magic" gap — there is no home base or mental model for teams.

Relates: #66 (a directory feeds one-tap invites), #68 (silent team creation), #70 (first-access orientation).

Problem

There is no single "Team" home. Team state is scattered — Members lives per-vault (MembersPage.tsx), pending invites are a dashed sidebar icon, sessions are a separate rail, presence is elsewhere again. Worse, a team is auto-created silently the first time you invite someone from a private vault (handlePrivateAddcreateTeam(vault.name), see #68), so users never form a mental model of what a team is, how it differs from a personal vault vs a team vault, or where to manage any of it. A first-timer is dropped into a system of concepts with no orientation.

Proposed reflow

Decisions (brainstorm 2026-07-24)

Still open

  • Where the hub lives (top-level nav? a view? part of settings?).
  • How much is a true "hub" vs. lightweight orientation + better cross-links between existing surfaces (avoid building a heavy new screen if links suffice).
  • Scope of the directory (team members only, or anyone you share vaults with).
  • Mobile.
