feature request: backed by self-hosted version control system

It would be great if users were not constrained to use this with github and could also use it with their own self-hosted version control system, for example Gitea or Gitlab

Hi @c-nv-s, at the moment, this project is fully dependent on GitHub backing the site. It's an intended limitation of the project at this stage, but we can keep our eyes open for this in the future. I'll leave the issue open if anyone else wants to chime in

GitLab is a hard requirement for any of our projects.

@thomasgauvin Would you be able to give a better spec on what's happening on the backend for Github authentication / app. I'm extremely surprised this repository is not more popular given the widescale use of static sites.

Are there forks/alternatives I'm unaware of or is this project underutilized?
