Are other database technologies required?

At the moment DeepSpace is designed to use an azure CosmosDB back end, however this may be frustrating for people who don't want to use azure.

Is there a requirement for a database which can be run locally? SQL Server for example?

I think we may consider tools like Dapper https://github.com/StackExchange/Dapper, this is my favorite for now, its fast & simple + there are lots of supported databases

It’s a NoSQL database provided by azure - dapper sounds fun, I’ve not used it before!

MySQL / PostgreSQL should be fine for now, I think, also are you planning to use migrations?

For the short term I've created a file based "database" to configure it:

1. Charge Startup.cs to use the filebased data access instead of the cosmos one
2. Create an app setting of value StorageFolder which points to a location on the hard drive to which the process has permission to write.

It's not as good as implementing with the databases we've listed above, but it'll help people get up and running if they don't use azure!

To consider: Is it okay to use SQL databases like MySQL / Postgresql? If current functionality is working with NoSQL we may need to store objects differently, or use NoSQL databases ex. MongoDB

You want to store data in the files? I think better solution will be to read data from config like host, port, user, dbname, than connect to this database

Oh don’t get me wrong - a NoSQL database would be far better!

I implemented the file data access to help contributors get up and running with minimum dependencies.

That means people can focus on game functionality rather than fighting to install it on their own computers. Still very open to a non-azure backend database if someone wants it.
