Contributor Covenant Code of Conduct

Our Commitment

We are committed to providing a welcoming and inspiring community for all. BrowsePing and its community are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.

We pledge that our community will be an inclusive, respectful, and harassment-free space for all contributors and users.

Our Standards

Examples of Behavior That Contribute to Creating a Positive Environment Include:

  • Being respectful: Treating all community members with respect and kindness
  • Being inclusive: Welcoming and supporting people of all backgrounds
  • Being collaborative: Working together constructively toward common goals
  • Being empathetic: Trying to understand different perspectives and experiences
  • Providing constructive feedback: Offering helpful, specific suggestions for improvement
  • Accepting feedback gracefully: Being open to criticism and willing to improve
  • Focusing on the project: Keeping discussions relevant to the BrowsePing project
  • Helping others: Assisting fellow community members and answering questions
  • Crediting contributions: Acknowledging the work of others
  • Being patient: Understanding that people have varying levels of experience and knowledge

Examples of Unacceptable Behavior Include:

  • Harassment: Deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, or sustained disruption of discussions
  • Discrimination: Treating people unfairly based on any characteristic or group membership
  • Abuse: Any form of violence, aggressive behavior, or threats
  • Offensive content: Sexualized language or imagery, insults, derogatory comments
  • Personal attacks: Attacking people instead of ideas
  • Trolling: Deliberately provoking or causing disruption
  • Spam: Flooding channels with repetitive or irrelevant content
  • Doxxing: Sharing private information without consent
  • Sexual harassment: Any unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or other verbal/physical harassment of a sexual nature
  • Hate speech: Slurs, stereotypes, or dehumanizing language targeting any group
  • Disruption: Intentionally derailing conversations or preventing others from participating
  • Copyright violations: Sharing others' work without proper attribution
  • Policy violations: Repeatedly violating the community guidelines despite warnings

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to:

  • All spaces managed by the BrowsePing project, including but not limited to:

    • GitHub repositories, issues, and pull requests
    • Discord server and channels
    • Official communication channels
    • Team meetings and events
    • Anywhere representing the BrowsePing project or its community
  • Individuals representing BrowsePing in public spaces

  • Interactions that have a direct impact on the BrowsePing community, even if they occur outside of managed spaces

The Code of Conduct does not apply to commercial relationships where the project itself is not involved.

Enforcement

Community leaders are responsible for clarifying the standards of acceptable behavior and are expected to take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any instances of unacceptable behavior.

Community leaders have the right and responsibility to:

  • Remove, edit, or reject contributions (comments, commits, code, wiki edits, issues, and other contributions)
  • Ban temporarily or permanently any contributor for behaviors deemed inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful
  • Investigate complaints and incidents
  • Take corrective action
  • Issue warnings or remove membership from the community

Instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behavior may be reported to the community leaders responsible for enforcement at:

How to Report

    • Use Discord's reporting feature or contact moderators directly
    • DM a moderator with your concern

What to Include in Your Report

  • Description: What happened? Be as specific as possible
  • Participants: Who was involved? (usernames/names)
  • Time/Location: When and where did this occur?
  • Evidence: Links to messages, screenshots, etc. (if applicable)
  • Impact: How did this affect you or the community?
  • Your information: Your name/username and contact method
  • Context: Any additional information that would help us understand the situation

Confidentiality

All reports will be treated with confidence. We will:

  • Keep the reporter's identity confidential upon request
  • Notify all parties about the outcome of the investigation
  • Not disclose details beyond what is necessary

Response

Community leaders will respond to Code of Conduct reports within 7 business days with:

  1. Initial acknowledgment: Confirming receipt of the report
  2. Investigation: Gathering information from all parties
  3. Assessment: Determining if a violation occurred
  4. Action: Taking appropriate corrective action if necessary
  5. Notification: Informing the reporter of the outcome (with details as appropriate)

Corrective Actions

Responses to violations may include (in progressive order):

  1. Warning: A verbal or written warning about the behavior
  2. Temporary suspension: Temporary restriction from community spaces
  3. Permanent ban: Permanent removal from the project and community

The severity of the response will depend on:

  • The nature and severity of the violation
  • The person's history in the community
  • The impact on the community
  • Whether the behavior was accidental or intentional

Appeal Process

If you believe you've been unfairly treated or banned, you may appeal by:

  1. Sending an email to support@browseping.com
  2. Subject: "Code of Conduct Appeal"
  3. Include: Your username, what decision you're appealing, and why you believe it was unfair
  4. We will review appeals within 14 business days

Community Leaders

The following people are responsible for enforcing the Code of Conduct:

All community leaders are trained to handle reports fairly and confidentially.
