Commercial Licensing — Mnemosyne

Mnemosyne is open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0).

When you DON'T need a commercial license

  • Personal projects and learning
  • Open-source projects (your project is also AGPL-compatible)
  • Internal company use where the software is not offered as a service to third parties
  • Academic and research use
  • Evaluation and testing

When you DO need a commercial license

  • Embedding Mnemosyne in a proprietary (closed-source) product
  • Offering Mnemosyne as part of a paid service (SaaS, API, hosted tool)
  • Distributing Mnemosyne in a product where you cannot comply with AGPL-3.0 copyleft requirements
  • Any use where you need a license grant that the AGPL does not provide

How to get a commercial license

Contact Cast Rock Innovation L.L.C.:

Commercial licenses are negotiated on a per-case basis. We aim to be fair and accessible — our goal is to support the ecosystem, not to gatekeep.

Contributor License Agreement (CLA)

Contributors to Mnemosyne sign a lightweight CLA that grants Cast Rock Innovation L.L.C. the right to offer contributions under both the AGPL-3.0 and commercial licenses. This is necessary for the dual-license model to work. The CLA is signed once via GitHub as part of your first pull request.
