Get disciplines publication ready

Data:

• Update the Google spreadsheet from post-hackathon G-Doc
• Edit the source to have clean case study text at the level of specific disciplines
• {Ensure the references are clean and tagged consistently - Priya afterwards}
• Create Tenzing draft - names from the G-Doc, everyone worked on Data Curation and Writing - Review and Editing
  • Named authors still need additional CRediT roles ticked manually
• Data quality cleanup: deduped resources, fixed broken/truncated links, dropped unfilled "Resources required" placeholder rows, reclassified non-standard resource categories, synced page frontmatter counts to actual data (40 disciplines / 7 fields)

Tech:

• Only show disciplines - so from Natural Sciences to Methodologies (include the latter)
• Export function into an editable report, e.g. markdown, to result in something close to current version
• Ensure that the page looks clean without field-level text (currently marked DUMMY)

Progress update

Data

• Spreadsheet rewritten from the post-hackathon G-Doc. All three tabs (Fields / Disciplines / Resources) replaced with content from the canonical G-Doc. New: discipline renames now match the doc (Engineering / Business / Library), and four disciplines added (Neuroscience, Anthropology, Marketing & Consumer Research, Ethnography). Cells with multiple URLs were split into one resource row per URL.
• Examples columns now hold the full G-Doc prose, ready to condense to clean case-study text at the discipline level. The old short versions are in /tmp/forrt_disc/backup_*.json if any are worth restoring.
• References / tagging: left for Priya as noted in the original issue.
• Tenzing draft populated: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mPT7cGZIvNjOzY6Q6YPLf2CzTL9PG3I5f8oP3mhNfo0/edit — 48 rows. Authors (Farran, Silverstein, Ameen, Misheva, Gilmore) at positions 1–5 with Farran marked as corresponding author; contributors at 6–48 in the original Z-A order. Everyone has Data curation and Writing - review & editing set TRUE; named authors will need additional CRediT roles ticked manually. Two source-text fixes worth double-checking: "Watt, Becky" → "Becky Watt", and "Lisa Spitzer Felicity Smith" (missing comma in the doc) → split into two people.

Tech

• Filter to Natural Sciences → Methodologies. Done via a new Show column on the Fields tab — TRUE for NS through Methodologies, FALSE for the four cross-cutting fields. The parser reads it automatically.
• Markdown export. New scripts/export_disciplines_to_md.py produces a single editable markdown file mirroring the page structure, similar to the original Google Doc layout.
• Clean page without DUMMY text. Field-level summaries are now optional; the template skips them when absent, and the DUMMY placeholders have been cleared from the sheet.
• Reusable G-Doc importer. New scripts/parse_disciplines_gdoc.py to re-run the docx → sheet sync for future hackathon editions (with --push to write back). Documented workflow in content/disciplines/README.

Outstanding

• Condense the Examples prose at the discipline level (currently full G-Doc text).
• References / tagging pass (Priya).
• Author-level CRediT roles in the Tenzing sheet (everyone has the two baseline roles).
• The page frontmatter in content/disciplines/_index.md still says "38 disciplines grouped into 11 fields" — once the editorial work is finalised, update those numbers to match the visible counts.

Update — 2026-05-14

• Examples reformatted as Markdown. Citation/title text in each cell is now a clickable link (e.g. [Lia et al. (2020)](DOI), [Wellcome Open Research](url)) instead of a dangling raw URL in parens. Each Open X: section becomes its own bold paragraph (**Open Data**). Going forward, new Examples added to the Google Sheet should use Markdown directly (links, bold, etc.) — the page will render it as-is.
• Stray "As open as possible…" quote removed from the intro.
• Sub-heading typography fixed — discipline title is now smaller than the field title above it.

Outstanding items unchanged: condense the prose itself (separate from formatting), references/tagging, Tenzing CRediT, frontmatter discipline counts.
