I’m trying out emacs, and I’ve been really confused as a beginner, I don’t know whether to use Vanilla Emacs, doom emacs, or something else, what packages to install. So I need someone with experience to hold my hand and guide me through the process

I would recemend starting vanilla and maybe checking out viper-mode (built-in vi mode) or if that's not enough install evil, but try to not just jump I to doom, as doom is really huge and abstracts away some of core emacs and knowlage about how to set it up, how it works etc.

Arguments can be made either way for whether to go 'vanilla' or something else. Either way, I would say that while you are just starting out... don't worry about having the absolute latest / greatest version of Emacs or othef packages, unless they actually fix something you really need (vs want).

Similarly, there are a lot of good tutorials out there that you may be passing over because they aren't for the latest version of Emacs. Case in point: someone recommended Mickey Peterson's "Mastering Emacs" book, and you skipped it because of the relatively 'old' version (29.x) that it's based on. The thing is, the stuff you're struggling with, and the concepts you're going to learn, is generally not something that changed in any significant way from version 29 to 30 to 31. On the off chance you run into something that is the exception to that, it'll be easily discoverable online. So don't skip over a wealth of information just because it hasn't been (re)written for the latest beta release! Good luck 👍
