Risks & Considerations

1. Branch targeting: The issue asks to commit to PR Draft: Potential Geo Docs #163's branch (Draft-Potential-Geo-Docs), but this assignment uses nikw9944/docs-165. The operator should decide whether to retarget the PR base or merge the content.

2. CLI accuracy: The geolocation CLI (doublezero-geolocation) is documented based on the RFC and merged PRs. If any flags have changed since the last merged PR, the docs could be slightly off. The RFC is marked "Implemented" so this risk is low.

3. Port defaults: The geoprobe-agent source shows default ports (8923, 8924, 8925) which differ from the RFC's original "8923 for everything". The docs should reflect the actual implementation defaults from the code.

4. Translation workflow: The repo has an automated translation workflow (.github/workflows/translate.yml) that generates .es.md, .fr.md, etc. New English docs will be picked up automatically. No manual translation work needed.

5. RFC diagram fidelity: The architecture diagrams are reproduced from RFC 16 as ASCII art. If the RFC diagrams are updated in the future, contribute-geoprobe.md should be updated to match. A comment in the source will note the RFC origin for maintainability.

Testing Strategy

1. Local build verification: Run mkdocs serve to confirm:

   • Both new pages render correctly
   • Navigation structure is correct (geolocation.md under Users, contribute-geoprobe.md under Contributors)
   • Mermaid diagrams render (especially the new OutboundIcmp flow diagram in geolocation.md)
   • ASCII architecture diagrams from RFC 16 render correctly in code blocks in contribute-geoprobe.md
   • All internal links resolve
   • Admonitions and tabbed content display properly

2. Content review against source:

   • Cross-reference CLI flags in contribute-geoprobe.md against geoprobe-agent/main.go
   • Cross-reference CLI commands in geolocation.md against the RFC's instruction list
   • Verify port numbers match implementation defaults
   • Verify OutboundIcmp documentation matches the implementation in PR #3427
   • Verify architecture diagrams match RFC 16 originals
   • Confirm DZD telemetry agent version requirement (v0.17.0+) is prominently noted

3. Link validation: Check that all cross-references between docs (glossary links, contributor overview links) resolve.

Estimated Scope

All changes are documentation files (.md and .yml), which are excluded from the 500-line threshold per the Change Size Policy ("Exclude test files and documentation files from the count").

Resolved Questions

All questions from prior revisions have been resolved by operator feedback:

1. Nav placement for geolocation docs: Resolved (Rev 3) — geolocation.md nests under Users and contribute-geoprobe.md nests under Contributors. No top-level Geolocation section. This was revised from the Rev 1/Rev 2 approach (top-level section) per operator's explicit nav layout preference.

2. Geoprobe-agent package name: Resolved (Rev 1) — The installable package is doublezero-geoprobe-agent. Both users and contributors also need the doublezero-geolocation CLI package.

3. OutboundIcmp coverage depth: Resolved (Rev 1) — OutboundIcmp is a fully supported flow type and should be fully documented, not just briefly mentioned. This includes its own subsection, use cases, mermaid diagram, and add-target examples.

4. RFC architecture diagrams: Resolved (Rev 2) — Include the outbound probing flow, inbound probing flow, and onchain account structure diagrams from RFC 16 in contribute-geoprobe.md. These give contributors visual context for how geoProbes fit into the measurement system.

5. DZD telemetry agent version: Resolved (Rev 2) — DZDs must run device telemetry agent version 0.17.0 or newer to support geolocation. This will be noted as a !!! warning admonition in the Prerequisites section of contribute-geoprobe.md.

The two new files (geolocation.md, contribute-geoprobe.md) have no translation stubs. Additionally, contribute-overview.md got a new table row for "Geoprobe Deployment" but the 7 translated variants (contribute-overview.*.md) were not updated, so those translations will show stale content (missing the geoprobe row). Summary

The documentation is well-structured with a clear separation between user-facing (geolocation.md) and contributor-facing (contribute-geoprobe.md) content. The technical depth is appropriate for each audience. The two highest-priority items to address are: (1) the ambiguous "Geolocation" nav label under Contributors, which should be "Geoprobe Deployment" to match the page heading and avoid confusion with the user-facing entry, and (2) the missing updates to translated files (contribute-overview.*.md and glossary.*.md), which will cause translation drift.
