Gitree Performance Benchmarks

Summary

Load 34k commits 1.47s Was 778s before optimization
Navigation per keypress <1ms Virtual scrolling

Phase 22 Optimizations (v0.4.0)

Issue 1: O(refs × commits) Loading

Before: Loading iterated through ALL refs (including remotes), causing:

  • 2,402 refs × 34k commits = catastrophic slowdown
  • Zed repository: 778 seconds (13 minutes!)

After: Load from HEAD + local branches only:

  • Zed repository: 1.47 seconds
  • Improvement: 556x faster

Issue 2: O(n) Navigation

Before: Every keypress re-rendered ALL rows.

After: Virtual scrolling renders only visible rows (~50):

  • Improvement: O(n) → O(viewport_height)
  • Navigation is instant regardless of commit count
