Traceability* of statistical results in pharmaceutical companies is part of the compliance required by regulatory organisms. In this session we will evaluate deeply into the open source tool "Git" that allows statisticians to trace in time and space their coding work from the input to the final results.

Git offers a widely adopted approach for code collaboration and data traceability.

How is this? By version-controlling analysis scripts, study protocols, and model specifications, Git ensures that every change is tracked, reversible, and attributable—creating a transparent audit trail. Team members can work concurrently without overwriting each other’s contributions, review each other’s code via pull requests, and identify differences instantly through diffs. Branching strategies allow statisticians to explore modeling alternatives, validate assumptions, and revisit legacy analyses without jeopardizing the integrity of the main study.
Git also seamlessly integrates with project management tools and reproducible frameworks like R Markdown and Jupyter notebooks, making workflows more efficient and compliant with data integrity standards like GxP and 21 CFR Part 11.
The target of this project "Git in statistical programming" is to widespread adoption and active contribution into this topic. This is key to fully realizing these benefits. Also we will compare other alternatives, and also common difficulties when using Git.
But since this tool is widely used across programmers, with certain degree of success, we support the statement that "The more teams engage, the more consistent and traceable the studies become" . This will bring rewarding value to organizations and that will have greater confidence in their findings and submissions to regulatory bodies.
