Hi everyone!
I'm writing to inform you on a "soft" contribution freeze until early July, so for, roughly, the next 10 days.
I'm putting the final touches to a major redesign of the Strapi Documentation, and doing some QA. The WIP redesign is already viewable at docs-next.strapi.io. Please keep in mind that the current status of docs-next is now frozen, so while the design is not final on all pages, this site won't be refreshed; if you want to follow the progress until production release, and keep an eye on all upcoming improvements, please visit this PR and its accompanying preview website, which is updated several times a day while I'm fixing bugs and bringing some more improvements.
This new version of Strapi Docs will be numbered as version 7.0. As you might have noticed, and as explained on the release notes page, this version number has nothing to do with Strapi CMS version numbers. By design, Strapi Docs always document the latest version of CMS and Cloud; current CMS number still is v5.
This new version is the biggest redesign we've made since Strapi Docs exist, and is designed to bring you more customization options, increase readability, and get prepared even better for the AI era that's opened before our eyes in the past 2 years:
- New content width selector, so you can choose to fill as much screen space as wanted or as possible, especially with collapsable sidebars
- 3 new content modes:
- Elegant mode is the default one, with all the beautiful custom components you already know
- Markdown mode is a new simplified version, better suited for agents reading pages. Additionally, soon, content negotiation will be available, so agents will be able to parse Markdown links
- AI mode, which hides all sidebars and split the view into elegant content on the left and an AI chatbot that's a bit more aware of the page context on the right
- Fully redesigned homepage, including an API explorer which shows the format of API requests & responses. It's non interactive for now, but might become in the future.
- Completely redesigned 2-column layout for API pages
- New feedback widget, where you can leave general feedback for the page, or select any text and give specific feedback on this piece of content.
The "soft" contribution freeze means the main branch is not locked, but you should expect possibly slower review and merging times. Depending on PR complexity and my bandwidth, PRs might or might not be merged in the meantime.
Happy documenting!
