TOOLS THAT I USE FOR WSL - 2025

Raft WSL is a powerful tool for managing Windows Subsystem for Linux distributions.

WSL, which stands for Windows Subsystem for Linux, is a compatibility
layer created by Microsoft that permits users to operate a Linux environment

TIME TO START INSTALL OF KDE 6 AND Chimera OS VIA WINDOWS 11 - WSL

------------------------------

After install do this for Chimera Linux as ROOT user.

apk update

apk upgrade

apk add chimera-repo-contrib

apk add chimera-repo-user

apk update

apk add linux-lts

passwd root

Add user and set password - Change adolf to your user.

useradd adolf

passwd adolf

usermod -a -G wheel,kvm,plugdev,audio,video adolf   <-- change adolf to your user

echo fyren14 > /etc/hostname  <-- change fyren14 to your hostname.

apk add systemd-boot ucode-amd chrony zsh git curl tmux wget nano bash git

-------------------------------

Paste in terminal and enable systemd för Chimera.

nano /etc/wsl.conf 

and add

[boot]
systemd=true

[user]
default=adolf

Replace adolf with your username.

Test so sudo works and setup some small things.

doas apk update

If it ask for password we are done =]

doas update-initramfs -c -k all

doas dinitctl enable syslog-ng

Install fastfetch for CHIMERA

doas apk add fastfetch

Test via terminal: fastfetch

Install blanket for Chimera Linux - Listen to different sounds

doas apk add blanket

Time to install KDE 6 via Chimera.

doas apk add plasma-desktop kwin xorgproto

Now install SDDM.

doas apk add sddm

Enable sddm via terminal.

doas dinitctl enable sddm

Install xorg for CHIMERA Linux and KDE 6.5...

doas apk add xserver-xorg

-------------------------------

Login as ROOT and paste this - Chimera Linux and KDE

echo needs_root_rights = yes > /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config

REBOOT CHIMERA LINUX - REBOOT CHIMERA LINUX - REBOOT CHIMERA LINUX - REBOOT CHIMERA LINUX

Login as normal user and install Chromium browser.

doas apk add chromium

Install Gimp for CHIMERA

doas apk add gimp

Install Libre Office for CHIMERA linux

doas apk add libreoffice

Install flatpak - CHIMERA - KDE 6

doas apk add flatpak

doas flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://dl.flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo

Now test flatpak installation. We vill install Visual studio code from Microsoft.

doas flatpak install flathub com.visualstudio.code

----------------------------------------------

Then Copy and Paste this in Terminal for CHIMERA Linux and KDE 6

doas loginctl enable-linger adolf  <-- change adolf to your username.

Fix IP problem for X410. Cant find screen problem. Look for ip adress
in windows terminal / PowerShell: ipconfig

NOTE - Importent to look for ip adress. Last lines are IP-numbers for WSL.

GO BACK TO CHIMERA AND COPY AND PASTE THIS IN TERMINAL.

doas ls -l /etc/resolv.conf

doas mv /etc/resolv.conf /tmp/resolv.conf.bak

doas nano /etc/resolv.conf

nameserver 172.20.208.1 <-- put your ip here and add nameserver.

doas chattr +i /etc/resolv.conf

doas systemctl restart systemd-resolved

doas cat /etc/resolv.conf

DONE - Alot of problem fixed =] If you see some errors dont worry it works.

Test ip change by this after reboot: doas cat /etc/resolv.conf

If you see ip and nameserver all works.

Create a small script för chimera linux and KDE 6

Copy this and paste in terminal: doas nano ~/.wsl_x11_env 

Then add this script to terminal

export XDG_SESSION_TYPE=x11
export XDG_SESSION_CLASS=user
export GDK_BACKEND=x11

export LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1

Time To Start KDE Desktop via Chimera and Windows 11 =]

NOTE: START X410 FIRST THEN YOU START CHIMERA TERMINAL!


Paste in terminal: export DISPLAY=$(cat /etc/resolv.conf | grep nameserver | awk '{print $2; exit;}'):0.0

Paste in terminal: . ~/.wsl_x11_env

Paste in terminal: dbus-launch startplasma-x11


Take some time to start KDE 6 so just WAIT! - IF you get a black screen restart all....

EXTRA FIX SUDO - so you not need to use doas

Paste in terminal: doas nano ~/.bashrc

Paste and save: alias sudo='doas'

Rebbot Rebbot Rebbot Rebbot

Paste in terminal: doas ln -s /usr/bin/doas /usr/bin/sudo

Paste in console: which sudo

If you see: /usr/bin/sudo - Works...

Paste in console: sudo whoami

If you see: root - Works...

Rebbot Rebbot Rebbot Rebbot

Now test install of sudo: sudo apk update
