Acceptance

By using, accessing, downloading, copying, installing, contributing to, or relying on ShellKrypt, people acknowledge these terms and the related privacy, notice, security, license, and disclaimer documents. People who do not agree should not use ShellKrypt for real data.

Scope Of Use

  • Store and manage user-controlled encrypted vault records locally.
  • Create local encrypted backups and explicit reports or exports.
  • Inspect, modify, and redistribute covered source under the applicable license.

The project is not intended for:

  • Hosted account, cloud synchronization, remote recovery, or team administration.
  • Regulated payment-card, medical, legal, compliance, or enterprise-security use without independent assessment.
  • Use as a guarantee against data loss, compromised devices, malware, or every security threat.

User Responsibilities

  • Remember and protect master passwords and backup passphrases, and maintain verified backups.
  • Protect devices, operating-system accounts, files, exports, clipboard contents, and any data shared outside ShellKrypt.
  • Confirm that use, modification, distribution, and stored data comply with applicable laws, policies, licenses, and third-party rights.

Restricted Uses

  • Do not use ShellKrypt to access, store, distribute, or process data without lawful authority.
  • Do not misrepresent modified or unofficial builds as official, signed, tested, endorsed, or supported ShellKrypt releases.
  • Do not remove or violate license, attribution, or third-party notice obligations.

Data, External Systems, And Shared Output

  • Plaintext exports and activity reports are decrypted output; users control and accept responsibility for where they are stored or shared.
  • Clipboard clearing is best-effort, and external applications or operating-system services may retain copied values.
  • Backups, exports, project scans, external storage, and third-party synchronization occur through user-controlled systems outside ShellKrypt's control.

License, Notices, And Attribution

  • License or usage status: GPL-3.0-or-later source, subject to the full license text.
  • Notice or attribution location: NOTICE.md and LICENSE.
  • Branding or official-distribution rules: described in NOTICE.md; unofficial builds must not imply official status.

Support, Updates, And Availability

  • Support status: active pre-release development with no guaranteed response or support period.
  • Update expectation: updates may be released, delayed, changed, or withdrawn.
  • Availability expectation: no promise of continuous availability, hosted access, or continued distribution.
  • Compatibility expectation: pre-1.0 interfaces, formats, workflows, and platform support may change.

Changes To These Terms

  • Change process: update this document when product scope, distribution, support, data handling, or legal expectations materially change.
  • Where changes are announced: project changelog, release notes, or official distribution materials.
  • When changes apply: as stated with the relevant release or publication.

Open Terms Questions

  • Which jurisdiction and governing-law terms are appropriate for official distribution?
  • What commercial support, refund, and store-specific terms will apply?
  • What contributor terms are needed before accepting external contributions?
