feat: turn private recordings into reviewed transcripts and captions #152

Open

Description

@CruxExperts

Summary

Please provide a guided workflow for turning a local recording into a reviewable transcript and useful captions, with a local processing option that keeps the recording off external transcription services.

Problem or workflow

Entrepreneurs, self-hosters, and small businesses create training recordings, product demonstrations, and presentations. They need accurate text and captions, but may not be able to upload private recordings or want to repeat the preparation in several separate tools.

Affected area

Local media workflows, transcription, and caption preparation.

Proposed behavior

Help users prepare a recording, draft its speech as text, review and correct the wording and timing, and export a readable transcript and captions. Support captions that viewers can enable or disable, with an optional video copy showing captions directly. Preserve the original recording, clearly identify unreviewed results, and explain when local processing is unavailable.

For example, a small business should be able to prepare captions for an internal training recording without sending it to an external transcription service, then review the result before sharing it.

This complements existing video rendering guidance. Tool selection, supported formats, and integration decisions belong to the maintainer.
