Determining-Influence-of-Substrate-Materials-on-AlCrBN-coatings-for-machine-tools

This is a research done to determine if the nature of substrate materials has any influence on the properties of hard coatings applied on it. 15 substrate samples of WC-Co cemented carbide with different properties were chosen - Co content, grain size, Elastic Modulus, Fracture Toghness, TRS and Hardness AlCrBN coating was applied using sputtering process with same process parameters Measured Coating properties were - Mean Roughness, Reduced Peak Height, Reduced Valley Depth, volumetric wear rate, adhesion strength, identation hardness and indentation modulus First one-way ANOVA was used to see if the measured coating properties vary significantly across the samples. The properties that falied ANOVA test were not used further in the analysis. Correlation analysis was performed between the substrate and coating properties. Relevant correlations with p<0.1 were studied and interpreted on scientific basis.
