Motivation

  • Provide a concise design and MVP plan for scoring professors/labs by their probability of spawning a startup or licensing event within 12–24 months.
  • Capture required data sources and API recommendations (CORE, arXiv, Crossref, PatentsView, OpenCorporates, Companies House, GNews, and recommended OpenAlex) to guide integration and prioritization.
  • Surface practical constraints, naming/disambiguation risks, and a monetization approach to align engineering and product decisions.

Description

  • Add README.md documenting the engine concept, prioritized APIs, feature signals, and recommended backbone dataset.
  • Describe a concrete, stepwise MVP covering entity-graph construction (authors/works/institutions), publication and citation velocity, co-author centrality, patent signals, company-formation matching, and news-driven market signals.
  • Specify expected outputs including Spinout likelihood: 0–100, top 5 drivers, and watchlist events, plus monetization and reality-check notes.

Testing

  • No automated tests were run for this documentation-only change.
