Inspect

The Inspect window

Inspect opens a window about one item, or about everything you have selected. Right-click › Inspect, or Ctrl+I.

For one folder

  • Size and share: the size, size on disk, exact bytes, how many files and folders, and what share of its parent and of the scan it is ("12% of C:, the largest of its 9 folders").
  • Where the space is: its largest children as bars, each a click that zooms the map there, and a callout when one thing holds most of the folder ("61% of this folder is one thing: textures.pak at 12.3 GB").
  • By type and By age: two donuts, one of file types and one of last-modified ages (this month, this year, one to three years, older).
  • Context lines: last changed when, how much is untouched for a year, whether it grew or shrank since the compared scan, access-denied notes.

For one file

The type and extension, size and size on disk, when it was modified, its rank among its folder's files, and its change since the compared scan. Hard-linked files say they are already counted elsewhere.

For a selection

Inspect for four selected files

Select several boxes (Ctrl+click, Shift+click, or Ctrl+A for the filter's matches) and Inspect sums them: total size, how many items in how many folders, the donuts for the combined set, and the largest of them.

The path at the top is clickable crumbs; each zooms the map to that folder. Esc closes the window.
