How It Works

The tracker uses a mathematical algorithm based on a known new moon reference point (January 6, 2000) to calculate the current position in the lunar cycle. It computes:

• Lunar Cycle: 29.530588861 days (synodic month)
• Illumination: Calculated using cosine function based on phase angle
• Phase: Determined by position within the 8 major lunar phases

Usage

1. Open moon-phase.html in any modern web browser
2. The page will automatically calculate current moon phase data
3. Data updates every minute for accuracy
4. Allow geolocation when prompted to see your coordinates
