🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winRetry ordinary demand when cleanup completes.
When
subscribeChangesadmits an ordinary subscriber while asynchronous cleanup is active,startSyncIfStopped()sees public statusreadyand does nothing.sync.resumeStart()also does nothing because cleanup cleared the deferred-start flags. Cleanup later publishescleaned-up, but no completion path restarts this demand. The subscription status listener only retries detached demand for
loadingandready; it ignorescleaned-up. Queue a retry for ordinary demand at theCollectionChangesManagercleanup-completion boundary. Otherwise the subscriber remains active while the sync handlers are cleared, so it receives no provider updates until another operation starts a new sync.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

…nt-feedback # Conflicts: # .agents/skills/oracle-authoring/SKILL.md
Law: ordinary hook errors remain readable; failed setup transfers no resource ownership. See the shared conformance and lifecycle contracts. Reach: generated origin/timing, late cleanup, partial attach and real React ordinary/infinite histories enforce mandatory reach minima in the audit. RED: extended owners reject parent 929c1d4 at handoff throw, failed-setup lease, and post-unmount ownership assertions before the repairs. GREEN: 2816 core tests, 462 React tests, six guarded replays, scoped lint and the 418-name private-member check pass. Mutant: broad recorded-error throws, late status ownership, and narrow peer detach all fail their intended assertions. Limits: finite histories; H04/H08 need legal failing traces. Earlier SSR snapshot policy remains open. Preserve rejection during active cleanup. Record measured bundle growth and refactors tried in the versioned audit.
🎯 Changes
Ordinary and resumed Collection subscriptions now start a source left deferred by an abandoned React render. Previously, those consumers could remain loading until another caller preloaded the source.
Independent demand records its intent, requests sync, then releases the render deferral. A render that never commits still starts no provider work. Cleanup from a synchronous startup callback can retire that start. Admission does not start a replacement implicitly. A subscriber that survives cleanup retains demand for an explicit restart.
During active cleanup, ordinary subscription admission and deferred acquisition resumption throw
CollectionStateErrorbefore changing ownership. Callawait collection.cleanup()and retry explicitly. This also applies when GC started cleanup. Deferred logical subscriptions can remain without starting work. Effects created during cleanup return disposed handles and report the cause throughonSourceError.Ordinary hooks keep a returned source error readable through
statusandisError. Deferred handoff no longer rethrows a recorded error merely because the source has error status. Actual synchronous startup throws remain fail-fast. Explicit DbClient preloads still report source startup failures, including when graph demand released the gate first. The handoff attempts every source before reporting its first failure.Failed observer attachment releases each acquired channel, including channels registered before the Collection subscription exists. A reentrant listener cannot retain a failed physical attachment. A later explicit subscription can attach again. Pooled queries own their status release before cleanup registration can invoke a synchronous callback. Cleanup remains terminal for dependent queries.
A Suspense preload starts local acquisition while a server query stream remains pending. Server rows remain visible until browser acquisition completes. The SSR guide explains matching loader/hook config forms, indexes before compilation, and preload ownership. Explicit query keys require config objects in both loader and hook.
The branch includes merged main and #2233. The oracle skills require each affected public receiving path to run before production edits. Setup errors and missing witnesses block that gate. Source reading remains required after handoffs when definitions are absent.
🔬 Oracle coverage and review evidence
The versioned migration audit preserves the original feedback and both follow-up reviews. The coverage map names each primary owner and remaining witness.
The latest ten-finding audit records six addressed items, one approved demand policy, one refuted simplification, and two unresolved failure consequences. Both hooks reproduce the original error-boundary and retained-owner bugs. Their fix removes the broad handoff throw. Extra hook rollback guards proved unnecessary in the exercised histories and were removed.
Generated histories now vary error origin and timing, returned and thrown callbacks, absent causes, early registration failure, surviving peers, and repeated failed attempts. Core and real React drivers share the start-handoff judgment. Each property declares required reach and runs equal fixed/random budgets. Four new guarded receiving replays pass. Each selects one hook and observation. Original defects and narrow observer fixes fail the intended error, ownership, or acquisition assertions.
Existing owners also retain cleanup admission, resumption retirement, 192 interrupted ownership histories, pooled lifecycle cases, and stream handoff. Ordered replay coverage distinguishes demand by subscription and predicate. Its generated campaigns reject source-wide, subscription-blind, always-terminal, and ignored-ordinary-failure designs. Removing rank movement fails required reach. The audit records exact commands, counts, source identities, historical chronology gaps, and finite limits.
✅ Verification and remaining decisions
pnpm test.Scoped checks pass. From
packages/db:pnpm exec vitest run tests/collection tests/db-client.test.ts tests/effect \ tests/live-query tests/query/pooled-live-query \ tests/query/load-subset-replay-refinement-oracle.test.ts \ --coverage.enabled=false \ --pool-options.threads.maxThreads=2 --pool-options.threads.minThreads=1The implementation revision
83bd08dedpassed 2,816 tests in 54 runner entries with no type or unhandled errors. The observer owner also passes its final 30-test reach check. Replay protocol and manifest checks pass. Frompackages/react-db:pnpm exec vitest run --coverage.enabled=false \ --pool-options.threads.maxThreads=2 --pool-options.threads.minThreads=1React now passes 466 tests in 23 files. Eight receiving campaigns independently check both hooks across failures before and during commit. They observe
isError, source starts, and ownership after unmount. Restoring the reviewed defect fails all eight campaigns at the intended assertions. Controlled clocks preserve both abandoned-render GC checks. The current pass changes no production code. The deferred-acquisition owner and DbClient also pass 580 tests in two files. Scoped ESLint has no errors. Prettier, git diff --check, and the 418-name private-member cache check pass. Earlier integration passed 64 persistence readiness tests.pnpm size:compare --packages db,react-db --filescompares with merged main65d9ada50. The db package grows by 175 gzip and 233 brotli bytes. React remains unchanged. The typical app grows by 175 gzip bytes. Other app scenarios grow by 160–174 gzip bytes.Refactors merge observer channel ownership and remove a duplicate resumption guard. Removing the current-demand OR breaks one ownership assertion. Removing the positive-count guard breaks four reentrant retirement assertions. Removing the unneeded hook rollback guards saves 22 gzip bytes from React. The remaining growth funds the error-provenance and ownership laws. The versioned audit records each experiment and separates tests from shipped code.
The earlier warm-source SSR hydration mismatch still needs an initial-snapshot policy. The Date typing report needs its failing assignment and dependency versions. Two new claims need legal failing traces: recoverable pooled subscription throws and demand stranded beyond replacement readiness after a notification throw. Supported recovery paths currently pass. These gaps remain explicit.
The pushed head is
90a30827f. Its CI run is pending. All 26 checks passed on prior head1d1ac0170. At parent929c1d418, 24 checks passed. Browser dependency installation timed out there and on merged main before application assertions ran. CodeRabbit remains paused and last reviewedda37bc9bb. Its check does not cover the later changes. The PR remains not ready because the demonstrated SSR mismatch needs its product decision. Review accounting and scoped GREEN results do not resolve that decision.
