feat: add LocalePicker component - #49
Conversation
Region picker for settings pages: a searchable, keyboard-accessible dropdown over ISO 3166-1 regions plus a summary card of the locale defaults that follow from the selection — currency, date format, number format, and first day of week — all derived through Intl. The value is a full BCP 47 tag whose region subtag is the picked region; picking a region swaps only that subtag, so the language survives (en-IN -> en-US, fr-JP -> fr-DE). Week info comes from Intl.Locale#getWeekInfo() where available, with a regional fallback table; the currency row uses an ISO 4217 table keyed by region and shows an em dash rather than a guess where none exists. Follows the component conventions: useControllableState, forwarded ref with rest passthrough, shared Locale type from ./types, and useListboxNavigation for the popup keyboard semantics.

Map Bulgaria to EUR.
Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026. Line 38 still maps BG to BGN. For any *-BG locale, the summary card therefore shows a currency that is no longer in use. The test in test/locale-picker.test.tsx does not detect this. Intl.DisplayNames still has a name for BGN, so the check passes.

Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026, so the region's currency is EUR, not BGN. The ISO 4217 validity test passes for both codes — it cannot catch a valid-but-obsolete currency — so pin BG: "EUR" in the table expectation instead.

Complete the REGION_FIRST_DAY fallback to mirror current CLDR for every currency-mapped region whose week does not start on Monday (40 entries): add the 27 missing regions (incl. ID and MV, which starts Friday), change SA to Sunday, and drop IQ, IR, LY, SD, SY and YE, which current CLDR reports as Monday-starting and which would contradict getWeekInfo on modern engines. AE is correctly absent (Monday). Omit the BCP 47 tag from an option's search text: every option shares the active language subtag, so typing it used to match every region. The region part of the tag is already the option's region code. Pin the fallback table to the runtime's week info with a source-reading test that compares it against getWeekInfo for all currency regions, and add a search regression test for the shared language subtag. Align the docs Usage section, the preview demo, and the PR snippet: imports block plus a bare component block, no state or wrapper.

Reuses the shared helpers and listbox hook correctly; checks pass locally. Changes needed:
- Screenshots in the PR description: light/dark, LTR/RTL, open popup, summary card.
- Docs import a site-only module (
content/docs/components/locale-pickers/locale-picker.mdx:93):regionscomes from@/lib/elements-config, which users don't have. Inline the array in the example. - Memoize derived data (
src/registry/components/locale-picker.tsx:469-486,:511): options are rebuilt on every render (each search keystroke), creating twoIntl.DisplayNamesper region plus the summary formatters.useMemoon[regions, active, labelMode]with oneDisplayNamesper mode. showSummaryprop (:703): the summary card always renders; hiding it currently requiresclassNames.summary="hidden". AddshowSummary(defaulttrue).- Hard-coded English strings (
:578,:620,:636,:654,:711-734): "Current region:", "Search regions", "Select region", "Clear search" and the summary labels. Add alabels?: Partial<LocalePickerLabels>prop following the pattern in #81 (exported type, per-key defaults, docs row, test).
Nits:
6. Dedupe regions (:661 uses region as the key, so repeats produce duplicate keys).
7. The search input's aria-label (:620) ignores a custom searchPlaceholder; fold into the labels change.
8. The week-start test (test/locale-picker.test.tsx:445) depends on the runtime's CLDR data; note the assumption in a comment so an ICU update failure is easy to trace.

Labels, showSummary, memoization, dedupe and the docs fix look good. One item left:
CI fails: test/locale-picker.test.tsx:649 ("marks the exiting popup aria-hidden until it is removed"), reproducible on every run. Closing from the trigger unmounts the popup immediately instead of running the exit animation. LanguageSwitcher, with the same AnimatePresence / MenuPanel setup, keeps the panel mounted (aria-hidden) until the exit finishes. Find what removes the panel early in LocalePicker rather than adjusting the test, then update the branch with main.

Correction to my last review: the exit animation isn't broken. The "marks the exiting popup aria-hidden until it is removed" test (test/locale-picker.test.tsx:642) only fails when it's the first test in the file to run a real animation — rendering LanguageSwitcher or LocalePicker once before it makes it pass. It fails locally every run and passed in CI on 98792b6, so it depends on the machine.
Please make it order-independent, e.g. open and close the picker once before the assertion, or wait for aria-hidden with waitFor. Everything else from the review is addressed.

The aria-hidden test is now order-independent and passes alone and in the full suite. Typecheck, lint, tests and build pass. Approved.
