feat(mcp): export a project's audio, or one track alone, to WAV or M4A - #1383
Takes a project's narration back out as audio, from MCP and from the CLI.
exportAudio on both MCP servers: { projectId, path (.wav|.m4a), audioId? }. Without audioId it writes the programme audio; with it, that imported track alone (the audioId from addAudio).
CLI: openscreen export p.openscreen -o mix.m4a, and --track <audioId> for one track.
How: the compositor has no audio-only render, and a second mixer would drift from the MP4's (voice levelling, ducking, limiter, speed regions). So the runner renders the MP4 as usual, at 720p, and mediabunny takes its audio stream out: M4A copies the AAC, WAV decodes it to PCM. For a track alone, the clips render with hasAudio: false, the click sound is dropped and the other tracks are filtered out. Offset, trims, gain, fades and speed regions therefore follow the video export's rules exactly. The file lasts as long as the video, silent around the track.
exportVideo already includes imported tracks. It runs the same runner and scene. Checked on a real file below.
Not done: a "replace the take's audio" switch. The document has no take mute (gain is bounded at ±12 dB), and an export-only option would make a file the project does not describe. Happy to add a document-level switch in a follow-up if wanted.
No compositor change, no new dependency. write-export-to-path now also accepts .wav / .m4a.
npx tsc --noEmit, npx tsc -p tsconfig.test.json --noEmit, npm run lint (no errors), npm run test: 4969 passed.
New unit tests: audioExport.test.ts, exportAudio in media-tools.test.ts, --track / wav / m4a parsing in args.test.ts, and render-file cleanup in runnerHost.test.ts.
Real file, headless (electron . mcp over stdio, Windows; native binaries borrowed from a 23/10 build whose audio.rs matches main). An 8 s take with a 1 kHz tone, a 2 s 440 Hz voice through importMedia + addAudio at 3 s (gain −6 dB, fades 200 ms), and a 2× speed region on 0–2 s:
exportAudio with audioId → WAV of 7.02 s, silent until 2.007 s, voice until 3.99 s. The voice starts at 2 s because the speed region moved it 1 s earlier, as in the MP4.
exportAudio without audioId → M4A of 7.04 s. Same band levels as the MP4's audio: 440 Hz −30.1 dB, 1 kHz −19.0 dB.
exportVideo → the MP4 carries the voice: 440 Hz at −30.1 dB, against −58.4 dB in the raw take.
CLI export … -o cli-voice.m4a --track <id> → same placement (silent until 2.007 s), and the intermediate render was removed.
exportAudio on both MCP servers, and wav/m4a outputs with --track on
openscreen export. The audio is the MP4 export's own mix, taken out of a
render, so offset, trims, gain, fades and speed regions follow the video
export's rules.

Walkthrough
The change adds WAV and M4A audio-only exports to the CLI and MCP media tools. Exports can use programme audio or one imported track. The CLI renders an intermediate MP4 and extracts audio. The MCP tool reports progress and returns the output path and format.

Summary
Audio export contract and conversion src/lib/cliContracts.ts, src/lib/exporter/audioExport.ts, src/lib/exporter/audioExport.test.ts
The CLI request supports WAV and M4A formats and an optional audio track ID. New helpers isolate a track and extract audio from a video render.
The CLI parses audio formats and track selection, renders and writes audio exports, and cleans up the temporary audio render. The IPC handler accepts WAV and M4A paths. CLI documentation describes the options and progress phase.
The MCP media tools add exportAudio with path handling, export checks, and progress notifications. The tool supports programme audio or a selected track. MCP tool expectations and documentation include the new tool.

Update the existing media-tool and permission descriptions.
Adding exportAudio makes “the same seven” incorrect. Lines 66 and 73 also omit exportAudio when they describe tools refused while MCP edits is off. Update the count and both permission descriptions in this change. As per coding guidelines, “The code is the authority. If a doc and the code disagree, the doc is wrong. Fix it in the same change that made it wrong.”
