Task

The owner asked for a skill for Pirsig's slip method, and added that his notes were analog. New skill .claude/skills/pirsig-slips/SKILL.md:

  • The method, from Lila, chapter 2: about eleven thousand four-by-six paper slips in four card-catalog trays; one idea per slip; random access; slips "to help him to forget"; no plan first, the order "democratically elected by the slips themselves"; sort by pairs ("Which comes first?"); tabbed topic cards; the five working piles UNASSIMILATED, PROGRAM, CRIT, TOUGH, JUNK.
  • Paper is the master. The agent never keeps a digital copy of the trays. It does five things on request: cut a text into slips to copy by hand, transcribe photos of slips ([illegible], never a guess), ask which slip comes first, suggest piles, and file one named slip as a fleeting note with /note.
  • [ANALYSIS] section on how it differs from the Luhmann Zettelkasten of notes/ (no ids, no links; place in the tray is the meaning).

Also: a row in .claude/skills/README.md, and skills.lock refreshed with scripts/readme.sh --lock.

Proof

  • scripts/readme.sh --check: passes (11 skill files locked).
  • just check / nix develop could not run in this session: the flake input h0ffmann/picasso was not reachable (HTTP 403). CI will run it.
  • Sources: Lila (Bantam, 1991; Wikipedia confirms publisher and year), chapter 2, read on 25 October 2026 in two extracts, not a printed copy: James Lawley, cleanlanguage.com (Black Swan 1992, pp. 32–39) and Andy Matuschak's notes. Marked partial in the skill: check each quotation against a printed copy before it goes into the book. No paper citation is added, so no REFERENCES.md row.

Checklist

  • A fact changed in prose/ is changed in prose-ste/ and prose-pt-BR/ too. (No prose change.)
  • Every new Markdown file has its cite line (PERSONAS.md).
  • A change to a hard rule links its change proposal. (No hard rule changed.)
  • A journal entry is added if this change met a challenge worth recording. (None.)

A skill for the slip method of Lila, chapter 2: four-by-six paper slips,
one idea each, in card-catalog trays, sorted by pairs, with topic cards
and the UNASSIMILATED, PROGRAM, CRIT, TOUGH and JUNK piles. The paper is
the master; the agent cuts texts into slips to copy by hand, reads photos
of slips, asks which comes first, and files a slip with /note only when
asked. Sources: Lila (Bantam, 1991), ch. 2, read in two extracts.

The alive check (live links) fails, and not because of this PR. Its 9 errors are all links to h0ffmann/ww3-gpu, which now answers 404 (the repository is gone or private): README.md (lines 131 and 138), README.easy.pt-BR.md, RELATED_WORK.md (pull 106), docs/archify/README.md, docs/compound/README.md and the published site. The two links this PR adds (cleanlanguage.com and notes.andymatuschak.org) passed. alive passed on main at 563c339, so the break came from ww3-gpu changing, not from a commit here. The check already retried once after 60 s with the same result.

No fix exists yet. It needs the owner's call: make ww3-gpu public again, or change those links (which touches README.md and its easy pt-BR twin). I have not widened this PR to do it. Every other check is green.

Two cases on the owner's line: cut it into two slips to copy by hand,
with its source as the note records it (posted by Nazanin Mandi, 2019,
author unknown); and file the slip without duplicating the existing
note 202610181434. The skill now looks in notes/ before it files.
