The Problem Current portable handheld fans on the market are plagued by several critical issues:

  • Battery Safety Risks: Lithium-ion batteries can overheat, become unstable, and potentially ignite if dropped.
  • Environmental & Durability Concerns: Non-replaceable batteries lead to whole-unit disposal, contributing heavily to global electronic waste (e-waste).
  • Short Battery Life: Frequent recharging is highly inconvenient, especially in hot, humid climates or during power outages.
  • Lack of Functionality: Single-purpose cooling devices add unnecessary bulk to users' everyday carry.

The HelioFan Solution HelioFan addresses these daily concerns by combining essential functions into one safe, solar-rechargeable product:

  • Solar-Powered: Harnesses renewable energy, eliminating the need for disposable batteries or constant power bank dependency.
  • Built-in Mini Light: Provides dual-functionality for emergencies, hiking, or power outages.
  • Sustainable Design: Built for durability, reducing the user's carbon footprint and e-waste.

Research & Methodology To ensure market viability, our team conducted user-driven research targeting university students and outdoor enthusiasts.

Primary Research

  • Method: Google Form surveys and outdoor observational studies conducted over a one-week period at local universities.
  • Goals: Evaluate market demand for solar-powered fans, identify key design elements, and understand consumer preferences regarding eco-friendliness.

Secondary Research

  • Focus: Explored the effectiveness of current solar technology in powering small electronic devices.
  • Outcome: Validated the advantages of solar charging capabilities over traditional handheld fan models.

Study Limitations

  • Response Bias: Primarily urban/university demographic; may not reflect rural user needs.
  • Timeframe: The one-week duration limited observation of long-term battery performance across different weather conditions.
  • Scope: Specialized technical testing on solar charging efficiency under extreme environmental stresses was outside the current study's scope.
