What

Rename the three commands of the config topic to set / list / unset.

Contract

  • The command name and flags derive from its routes by the naming rules of docs/contract/commands.md, and each route is reachable by a distinct set of flags, or the exception is recorded with its reason (or this pull request changes the contract and nothing else)
  • Output goes through src/lib/output.ts, errors through src/lib/errors.ts
  • The command never waits for a human: no prompt, no question, no $EDITOR; a delete command spreads BaseCommand.confirmFlags and its examples carry --yes
  • The command never speaks HTTP itself: the SDK or the generated client only, no fetch outside src/lib/clients/

The three commands call no API, so no route derives their name: they are in the "Commands without an API" table of commands.md, which this pull request updates.

Tests

  • --help snapshot added or updated on purpose
  • JSON output snapshot for one success case per route and one error case
  • Integration test added (Meilisearch API commands only)
  • pnpm lint, pnpm typecheck, pnpm test pass locally

No integration test: these commands touch no API. The existing unit tests cover the file, the refusal and the error, renamed with the commands.

Simplicity

  • Nothing in the diff exists for a case the API cannot produce, a caller that does not exist, or a generality nobody asked for (rule 16)
  • Anything shared lives in src/lib/, is used by this command, and is named below

Docs

  • docs/contract/ updated for every name, flag, variable or code this change adds or renames, or nothing to update
  • The ADRs that touch this change were read; what they decide still holds, or a new ADR says what changed
  • No accepted ADR was edited. A new ADR was added if a decision changed.

This box cannot be ticked, on purpose, and for the same reason as #22: ADR 0005, 0008, 0009 and 0010 are edited in place, against rule 13. All four only name these commands in passing; no decision of theirs changes. Say the word and I turn it into a superseding ADR instead.

Housekeeping

  • oclif.manifest.json regenerated
  • Changeset added, or the change is invisible to users of the package (docs of this repository, tests, CI)
  • New dependency justified below, or none added

Notes for the reviewer

Why these three words. git config, npm config set, aws configure set: an agent arrives with the prior and spends it on the first try. It also frees add, which #22 makes the verb of POST, to have one meaning in the whole CLI. The two pull requests are independent and merge into main in either order.

The behaviour does not move, and that is a deliberate call. config set still refuses a name that already exists, cli_config, and the hint now points at config unset:

$ meili config set --project prod --project-url http://localhost:7701
{"error":{"code":"cli_config","type":"cli","message":"Project `prod` already exists in …",
          "hint":"Run `meili config unset --project prod` first."}}

A set that overwrites, the way npm config set does, was considered and dropped: ADR 0005 decided that refusal on purpose, and changing an entry stays an unset then a set. The cost is real and worth naming in review: an agent with the npm prior will type config set on an existing project and take an error where it expected idempotence. The counter-argument that won is in ADR 0005 already — isolation through MEILI_CONFIG, one file per agent, is what protects the file; the refusal only prevents a replacement by mistake, and that is worth keeping.

config list does not move. Nothing collides with it, and list is not a verb of the API topics.

The rest is mechanical: the file moves src/commands/config/add.ts to set.ts and remove.ts to unset.ts (which is what renames the commands, oclif derives the tree from the path), the class names, the manifest, the snapshots, and the five documents that name these commands in passing — commands.md, config.md, output.md, ADR 0005, 0008, 0009, 0010, the README and the changeset.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Command Updates
    • Configuration commands are now meili config set and meili config unset, replacing config add and config remove. Use unset followed by set to change an existing project entry.
  • Documentation
    • Updated configuration guides, command references, examples, and help text to reflect the new command names.
    • Clarified that config set rejects existing project names and documented the auth login timeout and exit code.

📝 Walkthrough

The config management commands are renamed from add and remove to set and unset. Command definitions, manifest entries, tests, and documentation use the new names. The existing command behavior remains unchanged.

Changes: Config command rename

Layer / File(s) Summary
Command definitions, registration, and tests
src/commands/config/*, oclif.manifest.json, test/commands/config/*, test/commands/schema.test.ts, test/contract/commands.test.ts
The command classes and manifest entries use config set and config unset. Tests invoke the renamed commands and update the duplicate-name hint. The manifest includes config:list metadata and examples.
Documentation and command contracts
.changeset/first-version.md, README.md, docs/adr/*, docs/contract/*
Documentation and examples use the renamed commands. The command contract also specifies the auth login five-minute timeout and cli_timeout exit code 5.

Comment @coderabbitai help to get the list of available commands.

The vocabulary of a config file everywhere else: `git config`, `npm
config set`, `aws configure set`. An agent arrives with that prior and
spends it on the first try.

The behaviour does not move. `config set` still refuses a name that
already exists, `cli_config`, and points at `config unset`: changing an
entry stays an `unset` then a `set`, which ADR 0005 decided on purpose
and which isolation through MEILI_CONFIG, not this refusal, really
protects. A `set` that overwrites was considered and dropped for that
one reason.

The ADRs are rewritten as if the decision had been taken on day one,
rather than superseded: nothing is released, and ADR 0005, 0008, 0009
and 0010 only ever mention these commands in passing.

Snapshot the renamed command’s success and error results.

The help test has a snapshot, but the success and error tests do not. Snapshot the empty success result and the full structured error result. The error test currently checks the message but can miss changes to other error fields. As per coding guidelines: “It must snapshot the --help output and the JSON output for one success case and one error case, with msw mocks.”
