Carries the spec half of #27732 item 1; #27732 keeps the engine half (the in-process engine refuses an empty searchFields / search.fields override, 400 VALIDATION_ERROR, built in its card thread).

What is left

After PR #27725 the shared FullTextSearchSchema.fields refuses [], and #27732 makes the in-process engine refuse an empty override too. The engine-side option declarations still admit []:

  • EngineQueryOptionsSchema.searchFields (packages/spec/src/data/data-engine.zod.ts, ~line 190)
  • EngineAggregateOptionsSchema.searchFields (~line 514)
  • EngineCountOptionsSchema.searchFields (~line 559)

So the engine-side declarations say two things about one value: search.fields: [] is refused (it reuses FullTextSearchSchema), while searchFields: [] is admitted, and the engine refuses both. Flip the three searchFields declarations to refuse an empty list, so the declaration never admits what the engine refuses (the #27008 shape on the projection axis).

This narrows a published declaration: Clause-②: no (narrowing), a contract review, the ADR-0087 disposition. It is packages/spec, so domain:spec (triage decides). Item 2 of #27732 (the comma-string transport encoding) is by design (triage 6519918549) and is not part of this card.
