Legged Robot Test Rig

⚠️ Use at your own risk! This project repurposes an item not meant to withstand large loads. ⚠️

This test rig is optimized to be very cost-efficient. At the price point of < $10, it is very hard to beat, much cheaper than buying individual materials. Its affordability comes from repurposing a product from Target. More details below.

This robot test rig was used to test out the quadruped Mistletoe. It can lift the 10kg robot with relative ease.

Materials

Item Quantity
Adjustable Single Rod Garment Rack 1
M3 Screws and Nuts 8
3D Printed Parts -

Steps

  1. Print parts: Orientation is flat against the diagonal faces as shown.
  2. Assemble Target kit: Take out the supports on the bottom (they get in the way).
  3. Add 3D print: Add screws and nuts to clamp; don’t tighten all the way.
  4. Insert rod: Insert the rod.
  5. Tighten screws: Tighten the screws.

Attach the harnessing rope of your choice to the robot and tie it to the rod.
