Breaking changes: Several exist in K8s 1.37 but none affect this codebase:

• EventRecorder interface addition: this project consumes the interface (via mgr.GetEventRecorder()), it does not implement it -- unaffected
• context.TODO removal: this project uses high-level utilities (retry.RetryOnConflict, TypedRateLimitingInterface, scheme registration) -- no direct API calls missing context
• Removed types (PodStatusResult, scheduling.k8s.io/v1alpha2): not used anywhere in the codebase
• TypeMeta serialization change: standard kubebuilder embedding pattern, handled transparently by controller-runtime

Security concerns: None. No CVEs addressed; no suspicious changes in transitive dependencies.

Impact on codebase: The operator uses only stable core/v1 types (Node, Taint, NodeCondition, NodeConditionType) and standard apimachinery/client-go utilities. No deprecated or removed APIs are in use. Verified by searching all imports and usage patterns.

CI status: build PASS | generate PASS | test PASS | lint pending | e2e pending

Note: controller-runtime remains at v0.24.1 while k8s.io direct deps move to v0.37.0; some indirect k8s.io deps (apiextensions-apiserver, apiserver, component-base) stay at v0.36.1. This cross-minor-version usage is supported by the Kubernetes project and the build/test success confirms compatibility.

Recommendation: SAFE TO MERGE (once remaining CI checks pass)

Dependency Bump Evaluation

Version change: k8s.io/api, k8s.io/apimachinery, k8s.io/client-go v0.37.0 -> v0.37.1 (indirect k8s.io/streaming -> v0.37.1)
Semver bump type: patch

Updated after the PR was rebased. The earlier evaluation covered v0.36.3 -> v0.37.1 and flagged a controller-runtime mismatch. main is now on k8s.io v0.37.0 with controller-runtime v0.25.2, so that concern no longer applies.

Changes:

• Between the v0.37.0 and v0.37.1 tags, each of the three upstream repos has a single commit, "Update dependencies to v0.37.1 tag", and it touches only go.mod/go.sum. It swaps the sibling pseudo-versions for the v0.37.1 tags. No Go source changed in these modules.
• In this repo the diff is 4 lines in go.mod and 8 in go.sum. No new modules are added.

Breaking changes: None

Security concerns: None. No CVE is called out, there are no new transitive dependencies, and the upstream commits are the standard publishing-bot tag syncs.

Impact on codebase: None expected. No library code changed. k8s.io/apiextensions-apiserver, k8s.io/apiserver and k8s.io/component-base stay at v0.37.0 through controller-runtime v0.25.2. That is the same 1.37 minor line, which is normal and compatible.

CI status (re-checked 2026-10-28): generate passed. build, lint, test and test-e2e are still running.

Recommendation: SAFE TO MERGE once CI is green
