Twitter Video Downloader β€” Coming Soon (Browser Extension)

Download videos from tweets on twitter.com as MP4 files directly from your browser. This extension is currently in development and has not been released yet.

Twitter Video Downloader is an upcoming browser extension purpose-built for saving video content posted on twitter.com. Rather than copying tweet URLs into third-party web services or fiddling with developer tools, this extension will let you grab MP4 files from individual tweets while you browse, handling the platform's segmented video delivery behind the scenes so you get a single, clean file.

  • Detect and download videos embedded in tweets on twitter.com
  • Save tweet videos as standard MP4 files to your local machine
  • Support multiple resolution options when the platform provides them
  • Capture GIFs posted in tweets as loopable video files
  • Designed for Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Firefox, and other Chromium browsers

Why Twitter Video Downloader

Twitter serves video through an adaptive streaming pipeline that breaks each clip into small encrypted segments and assembles them on the fly in the browser player. There is no native download button on any tweet, and right-clicking the video element only gives you a poster frame or an inspect option. External downloader websites require you to leave the page, paste a URL, wait for processing, and navigate pop-up ads before you get a file.

Twitter Video Downloader is being designed to eliminate that friction entirely. It will operate inside the browser tab where you are already scrolling through your timeline, detect the video stream attached to a tweet, and reassemble the segments into a complete MP4 that downloads straight to your hard drive. The extension targets twitter.com specifically, keeping the scope focused and the detection logic reliable for that single domain.

Planned Features

  • One-click video download from any tweet containing a video on twitter.com
  • Resolution picker letting you choose from available quality tiers (e.g., 360p, 720p, 1080p)
  • GIF-to-video capture converting Twitter's GIF format into downloadable MP4 loops
  • Filename generation using the tweet author handle and post ID for easy organization
  • Batch download support for threads and conversations containing multiple videos
  • Progress indicator showing real-time download status inside the extension popup
  • Browser-native pipeline with no server-side processing or third-party relay
  • Cross-browser support targeting Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Firefox

How It Will Work

  1. Install the extension from your browser's extension store once it is released.
  2. Navigate to twitter.com and log in to your account as usual.

  4. Click the extension icon or use the overlay button that appears on the video player.
  5. Review the detected video details and available resolution options in the popup.
  6. Select your preferred quality level from the list of available streams.
  7. Press the download button to begin assembling and saving the MP4 file.
  8. The finished video file will appear in your browser's default download folder.

Expected Formats

FAQ

When will Twitter Video Downloader be released? A release date has not been set. Sign up at the waitlist link above to be notified as soon as it is available.

How is this different from the Twitter/X Downloader extension? The Twitter/X Downloader is a separate, already-released extension that covers the broader x.com domain and additional media types. Twitter Video Downloader focuses exclusively on the twitter.com domain and is optimized specifically for saving tweet videos as MP4 files.

What video quality will it support? The extension will present every resolution tier that Twitter makes available for a given video, typically ranging from 360p up to 1080p depending on what the uploader published.

Will it download protected or private account videos? The extension operates within your authenticated browser session, so it can only access videos that are visible to your logged-in account. It does not bypass any access restrictions.

Is it free? Pricing details will be announced closer to launch. SERP extensions typically include a free trial period.

Does it handle Twitter GIFs? Yes. Twitter converts uploaded GIFs into short looping MP4 clips on its backend, and the extension will capture those clips the same way it handles standard tweet videos.

  • Only download content you have the right or permission to save
  • Video resolution and availability depend on what the original uploader published and what Twitter's CDN serves
  • Changes to Twitter's video delivery infrastructure may affect functionality after release
  • A valid Twitter account and internet connection will be required for the extension to operate

About Twitter

Twitter (now X) is a social media platform where users post short-form messages called tweets, often accompanied by images, GIFs, and video clips. Video content on the platform ranges from user-uploaded clips to embedded live streams, but the site does not offer any built-in option for downloading these files locally. Twitter Video Downloader is being built to fill that gap, giving users a browser-native path to save tweet videos as standard MP4 files without leaving the page or relying on external services.
