Move the remote reference deletion out of the transaction, or add compensation.

stashNode runs inside a transaction. The remote DELETE on /references commits immediately. If a later step fails, the transaction rolls back, but the remote references stay deleted while the node remains active. The stashed-modification DELETE on the line above has the same ordering, so this PR extends an existing gap to reference modifications.
