Bastion SAST flagged three high-severity findings in .github/workflows/ci.yml (rule github-actions-mutable-action-tag, CWE-1357 / CWE-353, OWASP A08 — Software and Data Integrity Failures), on lines 43, 44 and 45.
Why it matters
@v4 is a mutable Git tag. The action owner — or anyone who compromises their account — can silently repoint it at different code, and every subsequent CI run executes that code with the job's permissions. That includes secrets.MEILI_BOT_GH_PAT, which this workflow passes to the pnpm openapi step. This is exactly how the tj-actions/changed-files, trivy-action and kics-github-action compromises were delivered. A full 40-character commit SHA is immutable, so the runner can only ever fetch the code we reviewed.
Changes
Each action is pinned to the commit SHA that v4 currently resolves to, so CI behaviour is unchanged — only the reference becomes immutable. The version stays in a trailing comment so future bumps remain readable.

v4.4.0
Note: lines 13–15 in the checks job had the identical unpinned refs but were not reported by the scanner. Fixing only the flagged half would have left the same exposure in the job that actually handles the PAT, so all six references are pinned.
SHAs were resolved live via the GitHub API (pnpm/action-setup@v4 is an annotated tag, dereferenced to its underlying commit).
Follow-up (not in this PR)
A .github/dependabot.yml with package-ecosystem: github-actions would keep the pinned SHAs updated, since pinning otherwise means we stop receiving upstream patches.
Updated the automated build and validation workflow to use fixed versions of its setup actions instead of floating version tags. This makes the workflow’s action versions consistent between runs. No changes to app features or behavior are included.
Mutable tags like @v4 can be silently repointed by the action owner,
which is how the trivy-action and kics-github-action compromises were
delivered. Pin every action to the 40-character commit SHA that @v4
currently resolves to, keeping the version in a trailing comment so
updates stay readable.

Both CI jobs now reference checkout, pnpm setup, and Node setup actions by pinned commit SHA, with release-version comments. The other workflow steps remain unchanged.

Summary
Pin actions in both CI jobs .github/workflows/ci.yml
Both jobs replace floating action version tags with pinned commit SHAs and release-version comments.
This change pins CI actions to immutable commit SHAs and does not alter workflow behavior. The remaining comments suggest optional CI hardening that predates this PR, so they do not block merging.

Set workflow-level GITHUB_TOKEN permissions to contents: read.
The workflow has no permissions block, so token access depends on repository or organization defaults. The visible actions and commands use read-only repository and GitHub operations. MEILI_BOT_GH_PAT is a separate credential used to read the private meilisearch-cloud repository and does not require broader GITHUB_TOKEN permissions. This is pre-existing hardening, not a regression from the action pin changes.

Disable checkout credential persistence in both jobs.
actions/checkout keeps GITHUB_TOKEN in the local Git configuration after the checkout step, unless the step sets persist-credentials: false. The pnpm install --frozen-lockfile step runs after checkout, so dependency lifecycle scripts can read that token. The token is then available to any later step if dependency code is compromised. Set persist-credentials: false on both checkout steps. No step in this workflow uses the persisted token for Git operations, so the setting does not break the current steps.
